還記得小兒子在幼稚園畢業表演時天真的說：「I want to be a doctor.」
坐在我旁邊的一位媽媽以不以為然的口氣對同伴說：「現在的父母是怎麼教育的？小孩子都那麼好高騖遠。」
真是冤枉！對從小憨厚有餘聰慧未見的小傢伙，我們的期望只是：「以後成為一個有用的人。」
也許因為他爸爸用心調教，更因為幸運遇到好老師，國中以後小兒子的成績突飛猛進，總算有點進第一志願的希望。
有部希區考克導演的老電影「擒兇記」，女主角桃樂絲黛唱的老歌：「Whatever Will Be, Will Be」，大意是人生要「順其自然」，未來非我們所能預見。
不過年輕就是本錢，只要努力，未來有無限可能，所以我還是拿日劇「小孤島大醫生」中長輩寫在字典上送給五島醫生的話：「要眼光遠大」來鼓勵兒子。

Now I have children of my own,
They ask their mother, "What will I be?
Will I be handsome? Will I be rich?"
I tell them tenderly:
